Customer guidelines for the most efficient use of our payment service

We have compiled the most important guidelines for using Paytrail's payment service. Please also share these guidelines with others in your company or ecommerce team as needed.

1. Check the instructions for your ecommerce platform. Or if integrating Paytrail's service yourself, check our integration documentation
2. Add the Merchant ID and Secret key to your online store. You can find them in the Merchant panel under Merchant account.
3. Test the checkout flow to see how the payment methods display in your store.
• Use our test credentials to test our service without moving money. 
4. Make sure your online store has the required information such as clear, comprehensive terms and conditions.

Idea On our Status page you can find up to date information about the status of our payment service as well as possible service interruptions and disruptions. Subscribe to the Status page, to automatically receive information by email about changes and updates to our service.

Payment terms

Add the Paytrail's payment terms below to your online store. Other language versions (Finnish and Swedish).

Payment Service Provider

Paytrail Plc acts as a collecting payment service provider and in cooperation with Finnish banks and credit institutions. Paytrail Plc will be shown as the recipient on your bank or credit card statement and will forward the payment to the merchant. Paytrail Plc has a payment institution license. For complaints, please contact the website the payment was made to.

Payment methods

We offer you our comprehensive selection of payment methods (some of the payment methods have industry specific restrictions). This way, your customer can easily find their preferred payment method. Familiar payment methods increase your sales and improves your conversion rate.

Note! Accepting card payments and using Buy Now, Pay Later payment services are subject to payment method specific rules and special conditions. Check our instructions for activating payment methods.

2. Familiarize yourself with your daily tool

Merchant panel - a versatile payment monitoring and analysis tool.

Our Help Center has comprehensive instructions on using the Merchant panel. Below are some tips to get you started.

  • User roles:  You can create multiple user IDs with different roles. For example, you can give your accountant access to only view payments and settlements.
    • Note! Please add all the people who need to monitor payment traffic as users. It is recommended to have more than one user.
  • Payment search: You can search for individual payments with several different search criteria or all payments of a certain time period. You can see all payments where the customer has been redirected from the online store to Paytrail's service. Using the payment status field, you can search for all payments paid out to you.
  • Payment link: Sending a payment link is convenient when a customer adds to their order or a customer places an order by phone.

Settlements

Settlement cycle and delay: 

  • M-Package: Daily settlements with a 3 banking day delay 
  • S-Package: Settlements once a week 

You can check your settlement cycle and delay in the Merchant panel under Settlement settings. Depending on the package, it is possible to change the settlement cycle to once a week or once a month.

Settlement reports:  

  • Download from the Merchant panel under Settlement reports. 
  • Provides details about settlements and fees.
  • A settlement summary can be automatically sent via email to several people.
  • Automate accounting by retrieving accounting data using the interface.
Refunds

Refunds

Refunds are easy to do through the Merchant panel and are made quickly to customers.

  • A payment can be refunded in full or partially.
  • Refunds should always made back to the original payment method, using the Merchant panel to make refunds will ensure this. This also reduces the fraud potential.
  • The refund amount will always be deducted from your Merchant account.
  • Make sure that your balance has at least the amount of the refund. You can transfer funds to top up your account, if needed. 

3. Ready to use materials

Logos and banners

Use logos and banners for your online store to tell your customer which payment methods they can use.

4. Do you need anything else?

You can customize our payment service with these additional services.  

Starttipaketti-sivu-1 Additional IDs are a convenient way to separate the sales of several online stores and to receive payments to different bank accounts, making accounting easier.

Starttipaketti-sivu-2 Tokenization and subscriptions enables your customers to have a fast card payment experience. Note: Implementation requires development work on the part of your online store. Please familiarize yourself with the special conditions for recurring payments with a saved card.
