1. Setup the payment service
The payment service is now available to setup!
To start processing payments, add your Merchant ID and Merchant Secret to your online store’s backend. Find these credentials in the Merchant panel under Merchant account.

2. Test the checkout flow
A clear checkout flow makes ordering easier.
Test your online store’s checkout flow and the visibility of payment methods by making test orders.
To test without making real payments, use our test credentials for Paytrail's service.
3. Add terms to your online store
It’s important that the terms of your online store are current, clear, and legally compliant.
1. Ensure your store includes comprehensive and clear terms for your customers. See specific info required.
2. Add Paytrail's payment terms provided in the box below to your online store. See other language versions (Finnish and Swedish).

Payment Service Provider
Paytrail Oyj serves as the payment intermediary and service provider in collaboration with Finnish banks and credit institutions and is an authorized payment Institution. Paytrail Oyj will be shown as the recipient on your bank or credit card statement and forward the payment to the merchant. For complaints, please contact the website the payment was made to.

4. Offer a variety of payment methods
Offering diverse payment methods helps customers choose their preferred way to pay and improves your store’s conversion rate. Our selection includes:
- Finnish online banks
- Cards : Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. When you activate card payments, Click to Pay is automatically enabled. It speeds up checkout by securely storing card details.
- Mobile payment methods: Apple Pay, Google Pay, MobilePay, and Siirto
- Buy now, pay later: Klarna, Walley, OP Overdraft Facility, and OP Lasku (Invoice)
- International payments:
- PayPal is technically integrated into Paytrail’s system but requires a separate agreement.
- Klarna offers consumers local payment options in international e-commerce.
- Credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are also available.
You can manage available payment methods in the Merchant panel.
Some payment methods are subject to industry-specific restrictions and method-specific rules and special terms.
Enabling the Klarna payment method requires access to the Klarna Partner Portal and adding Klarna’s terms and conditions to your online store’s payment terms. Read instructions for enabling the Klarna payment method.

Make your setup complete with our ready-to-use resources. Use payment method banners to show customers which payment options are available in your online store. Streamline your payments with the Merchant panel. Track payments in real-time, view upcoming settlements, and manage key functions all in one place with our convenient payment tracking and analysis tool. Discover key Merchant panel features below.
Transactions and refunds
- Track and search for transactions. Use the Merchant panel to find individual payments or view all transactions within a specific time frame using various search criteria
- The Merchant panel displays all transactions from your store to Paytrail. Check the “Payment status” field to see if payments have been settled
- Make refunds in the Merchant panel to ensure payments return to the original method, minimizing misuse risks
- The refunded amount is deducted from the balance of unsettled payments in your Merchant account. Note: ensure that your balance has at least the amount of the refund. You can transfer funds to top up your account, if needed
Settlements and accounting
- Get settlement reports emailed directly or download them from the Settlement reports page. Send reports to multiple email addresses if needed
- Reports include settlement details and deducted transaction and commission fees. A report is automatically generated once settlements are calculated
- Check your settlement cycle and delay in the Merchant panel under Settlement settings. Depending on the package, it is possible to change the settlement cycle to once a week or once a month
- Automate accounting by retrieving accounting data using the interface
Other features
- User roles: We recommend having more than one user for the Merchant panel. User roles allow you to control what information each user can access. For example, an accountant can be given access to only view payments and settlements
- Payment link: Sending a payment link is convenient when a customer adds to their order or a customer places an order by phone
Keep your information up to date in the Merchant panel
Updating your details in the Merchant panel is simple and secure. Make sure that key information, such as invoicing details, contact information, and your designated contact person’s details, is always current. This helps ensure smooth collaboration.

Parallel credentials
Parallel credentials are a convenient way to separate the sales of several online stores and to receive payments to different bank accounts, making accounting easier.
Shop-in-Shop service
Shop-in-Shop service enables multiple parties to sell products or services in the same service, shopping cart and payment.
Tokenization and subscriptions
Give your customers a faster, easier way to pay. When they save their card at checkout, future purchases are quick and secure—no need to re-enter card details.
- Payment is completed in seconds, especially on mobile
- Card details are always kept secure
- Recurring purchases and subscriptions are handled automatically
