Pentik combined their website and online store to improve their online service experience

Pentik is a versatile design house well-known to Finns

Pentik is a well-known Finnish interior decoration chain whose goal is to bring a touch of beauty and coziness to its customers' everyday life and celebrations. Pentik's ceramic dishes and decorations are the work of our own designers. The company's ceramics factory is the northernmost in the world and is located in Posio.

There are 66 Pentik stores in Finland and a Pentik store in St. Petersburg, Luleå and Prague. Nowadays, a large part of the products are also sold via the online store. Pentik employs an average of 300 people and the company's turnover was 29.3 million euros in 2015.

Big changes for the online store in 2015

Pentik's online store has been operating since 2008 and currently accounts for 3% of the company's turnover. The online store's product management is done from Helsinki, technical support is in Rovaniemi and the warehouse is located in Posio. The online store is mainly managed by three people, and the company's logistics has its own online store side.

"Our online store's old website no longer adapted to the campaigns we wanted and it didn't serve our customers on mobile devices. These were the most important reasons behind the change to the online store," says Salla Ahonen, marketing director of Pentik.

With the upgrade, Pentik's website and online store were combined into one entity, which enables the company to serve its customers better and to support buying through inspiration as well. The company's entire product range is now available in the online store, which works responsively on all devices. In addition, new product images have been added to the website and efforts made to optimize product descriptions during 2016.

Paytrail's pricing and contract met the needs of Pentik's online store

As part of the upgrade, Pentik's online store had to find a new service provider to manage the online store's transactions.

"Our customers had given feedback that all the online banks were missing from our payment methods. As part of the upgrade, we wanted to add all the banks and other most common payment options to our store," says Salla Ahonen.

Pentik's technology, logistics and finance departments compared different payment service providers and they ended up choosing Paytrail. The choice was influenced by Paytrail's pricing and the possibility to get all payment methods with one contract.

In addition, Paytrail had a good ready-made module for the Magento online store platform, on which Pentik's new online store was built.

"The implementation of Paytrail went very smoothly. The payment service works well, and we haven't had to contact Paytrail much," explains Salla Ahonen.

The online store brand also serves the network of stores

According to Pentik's marketing director, Salla Ahonen, it's a particularly good thing that the Pentik brand website and online store are the same today.

"The online store currently reflects our brand well. With the help of the content on our website, we are able to support online shopping. Social media channels are also well displayed on our website," shares Salla Ahonen.

She adds, "One of the most important features of our current website is that it also serves our store network well. Through the online store, you can check the availability of each of our products by store location."

The online store's sales have more than doubled due to the updates made to it. The goal of 2017 is to increase Pentik's online store presence in the international market.
