1. Setup the payment service

The payment service is now available to setup!

To start processing payments, add your Merchant ID and Merchant Secret to your online store’s backend. Find these credentials in the Merchant panel under Merchant account.

3. Add terms to your online store

It’s important that the terms of your online store are current, clear, and legally compliant.

1. Ensure your store includes comprehensive and clear terms for your customers. 

2. Add Paytrail's payment terms provided in the box below to your online store. See other language versions (Finnish and Swedish).

Payment Service Provider

Paytrail Oyj serves as the payment intermediary and service provider in collaboration with Finnish banks and credit institutions and is an authorized payment Institution. Paytrail Oyj will be shown as the recipient on your bank or credit card statement and forward the payment to the merchant. For complaints, please contact the website the payment was made to.

Start accepting payments with a payment terminal

1. Payment terminal delivery

Once your Paytrail Omnichannel service is activated, your payment terminal order will be processed automatically. PostNord will deliver the terminal to the address you provided, and you’ll receive a delivery notification once it’s on its way.

2. Set up your payment terminal

Follow the steps below to activate and start using your payment terminal.

Plug one end of the power cable into the left side of the charging dock and the other into a power outlet. Then place the terminal on the dock to start charging.

Press and hold the power button for about two seconds until the screen lights up.

Choose your preferred language and tap Continue.

Then tap Activate to set up the terminal for receiving payments through the installed Npay payment application.

The screen will display the terminal ID and your business information. Check that the details are correct, then tap Yes, continue.

Set a 6-digit PIN for your terminal.

Review the terms of use from our partner Poynt GoDaddy shown on the screen, then tap Accept to continue.

Tap the Terminal app icon to launch it and start accepting payments.

Enter an amount using the touchscreen keypad and confirm the payment to test the terminal.

Use your own payment card to complete the test. Please note that the payment will be charged to the card you use.

Test the receipt printer by selecting the Paper receipt option on the terminal screen.

Explore the key features

The Merchant panel gives you full visibility and control over your payment flow. You can track online and in-store transactions, manage settlements, generate reports, and handle refunds, all in one place. Monitor payments in real time, view upcoming settlements, and keep your payment data accurate and up to date.

Below, you’ll find an overview of the most useful Merchant panel features that simplify daily operations for e-commerce merchants. To explore the full range of tools and capabilities, visit our Help Center.

Transactions and refunds

  • Use the Merchant panel to search and track all your payment transactions. You can filter by specific criteria or view all payments within a selected date range. Please note that order and tax rate details for terminal payments are not available in the Merchant panel.
  • View every transaction where the customer is redirected from your online store to Paytrail’s service. The payment status field shows, for example, whether a payment has already been settled to your account.
  • Process online payment refunds directly in the Merchant panel to ensure the refund is returned to the customer’s original payment method, which helps prevent misuse. Payment terminal refunds can be made either in the Merchant panel or directly from the terminal.
  • Refunded amounts are deducted from your Merchant account’s unsettled balance. Note: Make sure there are enough funds available. If needed, you can transfer funds to your Merchant account.

Settlements and accounting

  • Online and payment terminal transactions are paid out within the same settlement cycle and included in the same payout.
  • Access your settlement reports by email or download them from the Settlement reports section. Each report includes a detailed summary of payouts, deducted transaction fees, and commissions. You can also choose to send reports to multiple email addresses.
  • To update the details shown on a payment terminal receipt, please contact our customer service. For online stores, update the receipt or order confirmation information directly through your e-commerce platform.
  • Check your settlement cycle and payment delay in the Settings section. Depending on your service package, you can choose to receive payouts weekly or monthly.
  • Automate your accounting with an API integration for faster and more efficient bookkeeping.

  • User roles: We recommend adding multiple users to the Merchant panel. User roles help you control what information each user can access. For example, your accountant can be given access only to payments and settlements.
  • Payment link: The payment link is a flexible tool for many situations and easy to create. It’s especially handy when a customer places an order by phone or when you want to offer an additional purchase.
