One-click payments
Make repeat purchases fast and effortless. With one-click payments, customers can pay instantly without re-entering card details—reducing friction and helping you lower cart abandonment.
Ideal for frequent low-value transactions in apps like taxis, food delivery, fitness sessions, or car washes. In some cases, additional customer authentication may be required.
Authorization holds
Authorization holds allow you to reserve funds on a saved card without charging the customer immediately. The hold remains valid for up to 7 days and is only converted into a charge when you confirm the payment.
This feature is ideal for use cases like car or equipment rentals, where the final amount may not be known in advance. The reserved amount can be reduced if needed, but not increased beyond the original hold.
If the rental period is extended, a new authorization or additional payment can be made based on your business needs.

What is tokenization?
Tokenization allows card details to be stored securely by the payment service provider, never by the merchant. Paytrail stores this data in a PCI DSS-compliant environment, so customers only need to enter their card details once. With tokenization, card details only need to be entered once. The saved data can then be used for future payments without needing to re-enter information.
Recurring payments are triggered by the merchant, such as sending a monthly charge request using the saved card data. While Paytrail stores the card details, all charges are initiated from the online store.
Two models of tokenization
Merchant-Initiated Transactions (MIT)
Merchant-initiated transactions occur when a payment is triggered without direct involvement from the customer. These are typically used for time-based recurring charges, such as monthly subscriptions or streaming services. Since the customer isn’t actively involved in each transaction, the merchant assumes the credit risk.
Customer-Initiated Transactions (CIT)
Customer-initiated transactions are triggered by the customer, who has previously saved their card details. Even if the actual charge occurs later (for example, after a taxi ride, at a gas station, or for paid parking), the customer initiates the payment themselves.
